80% for its era, 70% across time – a classic. Chevy Chase’s best work.

Fletch Lives (1989) 70%
Not sure why the consensus is that this is much worse than the original, when it is just as good. Also don’t know why Ryan Reynolds hasn’t been part of a reboot as yet. We’ll see if Sudeikis can hold a candle.
Bad Words (2014) 60%
Left too much meat on the bone of a very good premise.
Flight of the Phoenix (2004) 40%
Not certain how we’re supposed to feel about any of the characters, other than that of Giovanni Ribisi, who is well-cast as someone easy to dislike.
Nowhere Safe (2014) 30%
Made-for-television quality teen drama.
Calvary (2014) 80%
Powerful, with a command performance from Gleeson as he ministers a decidedly amoral and ungrateful parish.
Fools Rush In (1997) 80%
Guilty pleasure.
Footloose (2011) 40%
I think both this and the original would be deemed equally cheesy by most teenagers today. In terms of the remake, that is either an accomplishment, or a question about why it needed to exist.
Real Steel (2011) 50%
Formulaic with too many ingredients. The only characters necessary were the child and the robots. As if an ex-boxer (Jackman) could teach anything to a video game fanatic about manning a remote controller. And the token love interest (Lilly), completely superfluous… it’s as if she had nothing better to do after escaping a remote island or something.
Nothing But the Truth (2008) 70%
Builds an excellent crescendo of frustration.
